On Tuesday 8 October 2019, at an Extraordinary Full Council Meeting, Tunbridge Wells Borough councillors voted to stop the Calverley Square scheme.
Tunbridge Wells Alliance have been leading the fight to stop the £108 million scheme since 2017, getting 6 councillors onto the Borough Council in recent elections to challenge this scheme and improve the quality of democracy on the council.
In the May 2019 local elections, Tunbridge Wells Alliance removed the council leader, David Jukes, and cabinet member in charge of the project, Tracy Moore.
